Ask Lindsey Shelley about smart ways to grow your business, what's new in robotics this year, or when the next meteor shower will occur!
Q: Who are you? Introduce yourself as you would at a dinner party.
A: Hi, I'm Lindsey! I'm a fearless cook, textile hacker, and outdoor enthusiast. I moved back to Seattle in the fall of 2013 after spending nearly a decde on the East Coast. I work for Community Sourced Capital, where I help small businesses access interest-free loans sourced directly from members of their community.
Q: What is your background? How does it differ from what you are doing now?
A: I started my career on Wall Street as a stock trader at a big hedge fund in Boston. While I worked with a really great team of people, I was unfulfilled by my work and motivated to find a more meaningful role where I could work directly with people and use my skills to change the world for the better. I stepped away from the industry and spent a year and a half skiing in Whistler and traveling around Spain. When I arrived in Seattle, I found Community Sourced Capital and joined their team as a Local Connector,a position where I help small businesses grow using the support of their community, instead of the big banks I started in.
Q: What are you working on right now?
A: I focus on business development and help bring new businesses into our community lending system. My days are spent collaborating with the owners of your favorite local businesses, learning the intricacies of their work, and helping them take the next step in their path to growth. I think I have the most fun job at our company!
Q: Why did you join Impact Hub?
A: I joined Impact Hub through the wonderful good fortune of coming on board with the team at Community Sourced Capital. We have an office in the expansion space, come visit us on the third floor!
Q: What is something that really excites you right now (a trend, life development, time of year, food, etc.)?
A: I'm really excited that the Perseids Meteor Shower coincides with a new moon this summer (August 11th-13th), which will bring the darkest skies in recent memory and create a spectacular sky show!
Q: You have $10M to spend in the next year, and you can’t spend it on you, your friends or your family. How do you spend it?
A: I would use it to fund interactive public art installations around the world that inspire play.
Q: What’s on the horizon for you (a new project, career path, personal development)?
A: I'm teaching myself to code through designing wearable electronics projects.
Q: What is something we don’t know? (Either about you, or something else)
A: I was co-captain of my high school's robotics team. I still volunteer with FIRST Robotics, come watch me emcee a competition sometime!
Q: Give us your top three Seattle gems!
A: Emerald City Soul Club at Lo-Fi, and the twice-baked chocolate croissants at Bakery Nouveau, and Goldmyer Hot Springs.
